C.L. Smooth - The Outsider

One of the best voices in trueschool, CL Smooth never wears out. After his solo release "American Me" about a year ago, which was (spoiler) also a banger, CL continues to amaze with "The Outsider".

To be honoust, i forgot about American Me the last couple of months. Banged it for a month straight in the ipod, and enjoyed every track, but then gave it a well deserved rest. This new CL makes me wanna go back to American Me, and compare it to this release.

You know what's strange? I hate those newschool beats, but when CL is involved, i suddenly don 't care. I need therapy. CL is like a hardcore bukake pornset with satin sheets. The man has the best rapvoice out there, anyone argues, i say listen again. And he sings his own hooks like Big Shug, only CL can sing and Shug, well, let's not get into that.

The album consists of new tracks, and live performances of some old stuff (and not so old stuff too).

(Crack)House of Lords

Boom Shaka Laka, here come the Lords... NOT.

A 8 year hiatus in the rapgame left the Lords of the Underground with nothing but their name and their heritage. Most rappers suck, true, true. But the Lords don't. Mr Funke Man and Lord Jazz have massive amounts of credit with heads, why waiste it with this Indian Bollywood-Unit sound? I guess we 'll never know. Fruity Loops has a revival.

Lords of the Underground - House of Lords (if you want it, it 's on UGHH.com)

Raps are still solid, firm and clear (We're still talking about Mr Funke Man, he will always be funky..), but WHAT UP with the beats? For real, the Funk is dead! Cheap scratches, strange r&b hooks, bone-thug choruses.. You'ld have to pay me to listen, and i ain't talking 5 bucks..

Arm leg leg ........

Sometimes you get flashbacks, mostly when taking acid or mushrooms, but certain musical vibes can produce natural toxics that'll shake your neckbone. 2007 is filled with audiotic extacy, for example Brand Nubian's "Time's Runnin' Out" (find it at UGHH.com)

Do you remember the nineties? I smoked out the biggest part, but what remains are the foundations, the music that made me the underground fetisjist i am today. Imagine me smiling 360 degrees. I was browsing the congolese musicians library, and found the treasure. Something like Diamond D 's "Best kept secret", in a 5% jacket.

Brand Nubian has always been on top, well, for me anyway. After being lost with "Fire in the Hole" their latest release TRO is an ode to real rap. Productions by Grand Puba, Lord Jamar, Lord Finesse and Vance Wright make for a certainty.

PE - Soul etc etc...

New Public Enemy is out, check it at UGHH.com

How You Sell Soul To A Souless People Who Sold Their Soul?

It leeked 2 weeks prior to the release date, probably some media stunt, to get word out on the streets. Haven't seen the production crew been mentioned anywhere, but it sounds like Paris had a large finger in the dyke.

PE 's quality is also PE's weakness, the constant struggle and hardness. After listening to this album, i get the feeling of "Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black". the beats are hard, but listenable. After about 10 tracks i get sick and tired of the same samples, same statements and same Flavour Flave (excactly the same, they didn't even take the time to take new samples.)

Highlight is the track with KRS, where Flavour raps like Chi Ali.

Definitively, what this blog needs is a Last.fm widget, how could one live without it?
